A Russian court extended the period of detention for Sushchenko: hostage of the Kremlin will sit in jail for a year

The Lefortovo district court of Moscow extended the term of detention who had been wrongly detained Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko in the three months to September 30.

Judge Margarita Kotova has completely satisfied the petition of the investigation, UNIAN reports.

Thus, Sushchenko will spend in jail.

At the court hearing was attended by the Consul of Ukraine in the Russian Federation Victor Paysites.

The investigator of the FSB and the Prosecutor demanded a meeting behind closed doors because the case is “secret materials”. Despite the objections of counsel, the judge granted the motion, and the trial was held without the presence of the press.

Sushchenko told Ukrainian news Agency that in the Lefortovo prison, he continues to paint and has written in pencil a few pictures.

“I’m all right, my detention is a civilized way”, – he added. In addition, the journalist said that does not complain about conditions of detention, the camera has a TV and a fridge. Every day he has the opportunity to walk for one hour in the ring 4 by 2 meter grid instead of the roof, where he is engaged in physical activity.

Sushchenko noted that in his case is scheduled for two examinations, and further proceedings on the merits.

Recall, 30 September 2016, Roman Sushchenko was arrested in Moscow, where he arrived on a private trip. On 7 October he was charged with “espionage”. The FSB believes Ukrainian employee of the Main intelligence Directorate of the defense Ministry of Ukraine. Russian security forces claim that Sushchenko “purposefully collected data of state secret, the activities of the Armed forces and of National guard troops of the Russian Federation”.

The journalist denies all the charges. The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine demands from the Russian side to stop the illegal detention of Ukrainian journalists and to ensure its smooth return to Ukraine.
