In the Netherlands, watching the attempts of pressure on media in Ukraine – Ambassador

Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine Case Klompenhouwer concerned about the pressure, which is in Ukraine on activists-fighters and journalists.

This Klompenhouwer said in an interview DT.UA.

The diplomat stressed that high-quality media and independent journalists who criticize the government is the “cornerstone of democracy”.

“I am concerned that activists fighting against corruption, and investigative journalists are under pressure. Law enforcement officers should concentrate on their primary tasks and not interfere with either the economy or democracy. This is a serious issue. Netherlands and I think our colleagues from the international community is very carefully watching Ukraine and will continue to monitor any attempts to limit the freedom of the media, even if done with Patriotic position,” he said.

According to the diplomat, such actions may be unreasonable, and, as a consequence, unpatriotic.

We will remind, on March 27, President Petro Poroshenko signed the controversial amendments to the law on e-Declaration. In connection with the new revisions, some categories of military personnel are exempt from the requirement to provide statements about income, but to file e-Declaration now required of all representatives of public organizations.

This move provoked condemnation from European politicians and human rights organizations.
