“My base salary is 13 thousand hryvnias. It’s actually a ridiculous figure. I received some additional payments from the government, for which I am grateful, but which, in my opinion, remain unequal. Because 100 thousand hryvnia for this position and this responsibility is, shall we say, not very much. I am a foreigner who is forced to rent a house here and regularly visit their homeland. However, it is significant costs,” said Novak in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
The other side of the problem considers the fight against corruption.
“But my needs are only one side of the issue. If we really want to fight corruption, we need to increase salaries for civil servants. We did it in Poland, has yielded significant results. Because small wages is an invitation to corruption. I would not presume to give advice on what should be the reward for the officials, but I will say that it needs to be at least partly comparable to the system of incentives in private companies,” said Novak.
