Hungary and the Netherlands had a huge fight because of a failed comparison
Today, August 25, the government of Hungary withdrew its Ambassador from the Netherlands and has lowered the level of diplomatic representation to one attorney.
This decision was initiated by the Minister for foreign Affairs and external economic relations of Hungary péter Szijjártó.

The reason for the decline of diplomatic relations was an interview with Hungarian media, the Dutch Ambassador in Hungary – Gaius Sheltami. He soon finishes his business trip. The diplomat in his statement claimed that “Islamic extremists with the creation of an enemy image apply the same principles as the Hungarian government”. Therefore, péter Szijjártó demanded that the Minister no longer appeared in the Hungarian foreign Ministry.

The Minister instructed his attorney “strongly reject accusations against Budapest, to demand from the Netherlands Ministry of foreign Affairs clarification”. Besides, he stressed that clarification behind closed doors is not enough, the government of Hungary need an official response on this comment of his Minister.
“No one is allowed to make such comments about Hungary or the Hungarian people” – said péter Szijjártó.
