Not expire: Ukraine in the UN reminded of the Russian Federation on the Hague Tribunal for war crimes

The permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko stressed the need to prosecute all perpetrators of crimes during military conflicts, including the Russian government, which has unleashed aggression against Ukraine.

“The prosecution of persons responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law is a clear signal to the perpetrators in all conflicts that sooner or later they will be brought to justice,” – said the Ukrainian diplomat, commenting on the work of the tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.

Responding to the remark by the delegation of the Russian Federation that the war in Eastern Ukraine is an internal conflict, Yelchenko noted that Russia thus “hoping to avoid the dock in the Hague”.

Earlier the Director of Department for international security Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Sergiy Shutenko stressed that the Ukrainian government continues to be devoted to the implementation of the Minsk agreements. “We do not support a military solution, and we believe that the available political means should be used to stop Russian aggression against Ukraine and avoid further civilian suffering. This aggression, which is based on clear imperialist ambitions against the European and transatlantic unity as the basic elements of the global security order”, – said the representative of the foreign Ministry of Ukraine.
