Italian socialist Nicoletti became President of the PACE
The Deputy of the Italian socialist Michele Nicoletti, became the 31st President of the parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, UKRINFORM reported.
The Italian was the only candidate for this position, therefore the election passed without a vote.
Newly elected PACE President gave a speech in which he thanked for the trust and pledged to defend European rights and freedoms. He stressed the great value of European civilization and said that “we must remember that everything you own today, got efforts and suffering experienced in the past.”

The absence of the Russian delegation “disappointed” by Michele Nicoletti, but he said that “in any case, the dialogue with the Russian Parliament, the Russian delegation in an atmosphere of respect and implementation of commitments continues.”
Also the newly elected President also pointed to the problem of corruption, which he called a “cancerous tumour” of the modern world, and stressed the need to combat it.
