Ukraine took the last place among European countries in the ranking of economic freedom

Ukraine took the 150th place out of 186 countries in the annual Index of economic freedom in the world, according to the American research center The Heritage Foundation, scoring 51.9 points (maximum 100).

At the same time these indicators allow Ukraine to take the 44th place among the countries of Europe, and this is the last place on this sample. The total score of Ukraine increased by 3.8 points. It is noted that Ukraine improved its position on 8 of the 12 indicators. In particular, significantly improved the situation in the sphere of investments.

The authors of the rating of economic freedom noted that in Ukraine there are serious problems relating to corruption in the judicial system – one which citizens trust the least. Also among the problems named by the tax system.

“The top individual income tax rates is 20% and the top corporate tax rate is 18%. Other taxes include value added tax and property taxes. The total tax burden is 35.5% of total domestic income. Over the past three years, public expenditure amounted to 42.8% of total production (GDP) and the budget deficit averaged 2.6% of GDP. Public debt is equivalent to 81.2% of GDP,” say the authors of the report.

In total the rating includes reviews of the 180 economies in the world and the freest named Kong, Singapore and New Zealand, and the most depressed economy of Cuba, Venezuela and North Korea.
