The United States opposes the construction of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” in the Baltic sea, which will have negative implications for the energy sector and economy of Ukraine.

Speaking about the energy policy of Ukraine, the diplomat said that the United States supports a stable, independent, self-sufficient energy future of Ukraine.

“The future will not depend on Russia, and not be a tool of Russian aggression. We therefore oppose the pipeline “Nord stream-2″ which on the European continent would undermine our goal of energy diversification and energy independence,” – said the diplomat.

Deputy Secretary of state added that the pipeline, at least “significantly undermine the independence of Ukraine, its energy sector and its economy.”

We will remind, the company “Nord stream-2”, the founder and the sole shareholder of which is Gazprom, intends to start construction of the pipeline in 2018, and complete it before the end of 2019. The length of the pipeline throughput to 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year should be 1220 kilometres, it will connect the Russian Ust-Luga and German Greifswald.
