The document defines measures that will help to reform the defence sector according to NATO standards.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on approving the Annual national programme under the auspices of the Commission Ukraine – NATO in 2018.

It is noted that the Annual national programme (ANP-2018) system is a strategic document that defines priorities for 2018 and medium term goals to be achieved by 2020.

The document outlines the practical activities in the framework of the implementation of the policy of Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, security sector reform and defence of the country in accordance with the standards and recommendations of the NATO.

The programme involves the use and utilization of the potential and the practical and Advisory assistance to NATO and member States of the Alliance with the aim of increasing the defense capability of Ukraine in conditions of military aggression of the Russian Federation and the introduction of purposeful and systematic activities for the preparation of a state to membership in NATO.

We will remind, earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that over the next ten years Ukraine could become a NATO member.

“We are in a peculiar work on NATO membership. Our goal in the next 10 years to become a member of the Alliance. Together with Ukraine, the Alliance would be stronger and more effective than it is today. NATO States could learn from Ukraine to confront Russia,” said Poroshenko in an interview with Hamburger Abendblatt.

Over the next two years, Ukraine hopes to receive a roadmap to join NATO.

He said this in an interview with German newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt. According to him, Ukraine is committed as soon as possible to meet all the criteria for membership in NATO and the EU. And stressed that the government allocates to six percent of GDP on defense, and it is four times more than in the part of NATO partners.
