Merkel and Rasmussen wants Ukraine to and after the construction of the “Nord stream-2” remained a transit country for Russian gas.
Germany and Denmark agree that Ukraine must continue to play a significant role as a transit country for Russian gas.
This was stated by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Thursday, April 12, during a meeting with Prime Minister of Denmark Lars Locke Rasmussen, reported dpa.
She also noted the political significance of the pipeline “Nord stream-2”. The gas pipeline project, according to her, besides economic, also has a political dimension.

At the same time, the Prime Minister of Denmark said that his country wants to associate consent to the construction of “Nord stream-2” the question of Ukraine and the Russian safeguards against Kiev.
As Rasmussen and Merkel’s demand that Moscow promises that Ukraine because of the “Nord stream-2” will not lose its role as gas transit country. “Ukrainian question in this context is decisive” – said the Danish Prime Minister, quoted by Reuters. He reminded that the decision of the government of Denmark regarding building permits in the waters of the country have not yet been issued.

We will remind, a subsidiary of Russian gas monopoly Gazprom Nord Stream 2 is going to start construction in 2018 and finish it before the end of 2019. The length of the pipeline throughput to 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year should be 1220 kilometers, it will join the Russian Ust-Luga and German Greifswald.
Against the project actively support the Baltic States, Poland and Ukraine, serious questions remain and the European Commission. Meanwhile, Germany at the end of March gave final approval for the construction of “Nord stream-2” on its territory.

Today, the President’s working visit to Berlin. There he meets Angela Merkel. The main theme will be war in the East of Ukraine and the peacekeeping mission in the Donbass. Berlin supported the proposal of Kiev to send in the occupied territory of the UN peacekeeping mission. Moscow, however, this mandate sees in his own way.
