The conflict in the Donbas moved into an active phase and a hot war, the responsibility for which lies with the Federation, as well as opportunities to end the conflict.

This was stated by the special representative of US state Department on Ukraine Kurt Volker writes “Crimea.Realities”.

“It is still a very hot war. Last week, in fact, was a record for the number of ceasefire violations. According to estimates OSCE – 7 thousand for a week, it’s a pretty significant number,” said Walker.

He stressed that the conflict in the Donbass need to be addressed urgently.

“There is no ambiguity. Force (which is opposed by Ukraine – ed.) are under the direct command and control of Russia. And two political formations (the”DNR” and “LNR” – ed.) completely abstain Russian Federation from the time they were formed, including financing. According to him, the particular concern is an outbreak of tuberculosis with its dangerous strain of those conditions in which it is difficult to deliver antibiotics.

“The industry is destroyed, some mines are flooded, and some mines are used for disposal of radioactive waste. Radioactive contamination can enter the groundwater and cause environmental disaster.

There are also physical dangers to the public, and we often hear about undermining people in the mines, shoot at people… I mean, this is a very active conflict hot war”, – he added.

Walker noted that the territory, affected by conflict, living predominantly Russian-speaking population and Russia, which supposedly takes care of Russian-speaking, need to understand why their machines by their actions – or inaction – in terms of conflict resolution.
