Permanent representative of Ukraine to the UN Volodymyr Yelchenko was elected Vice-Chairman of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly.

The next session of the General Assembly will begin in three months, September 18. Its Chairman is elected foreign Minister of Ecuador Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces – she received the votes of 128 members. For its nearest competitor – the permanent representative of Honduras to the UN Mary Elizabeth Flores Flake – voted 62 members of the General Assembly. Two countries abstained from voting. About it writes “Interfax-Ukraine”.

Now the post of the Chairman of the UN General Assembly is the Minister of foreign Affairs of Slovakia Miroslav lajčák.

Earlier, Ukraine’s permanent representative at the UN expressed doubts about the organization’s peacekeeping mission in the Donbas.
