Russia could use the 2018 world Cup, in 2014 used “Olympiad” for the annexation of the Crimea.
A serious escalation of Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine may take place after July 15, when will world Cup 2018.
This opinion was voiced by Lieutenant General, former Deputy chief of staff armed forces of Ukraine Igor Romanenko, the edition of “Apostrophe”
“For Russians it is very important to host the world Cup, because anyway there is the global isolation of Russia in many spheres, including in sports. It is very significant. We remember how the Russians treated the 2014 Olympics, and at the same time know what it was used for the preparation and implementation of the annexation of the Crimea”, – he said, adding that the active involvement during the event, would be inconsistent with the approach that Russia is implementing in connection with the preparation for the 2018 world Cup.
The General also noted that the increase in the intensity of the fighting in the Donbas in may was due to the provocations of the militants and APU attempts at the tactical level to improve their situation. However, he recalled that actions carried out in the framework of the Minsk agreements on the territories that must be controlled by Ukraine.
