Rada supported the law on national security, bringing Ukraine closer to NATO

The adoption of the law should be a significant step towards the introduction of standards of the Alliance.

The Verkhovna Rada voted in the second reading the presidential bill “About national security of Ukraine”.

The decision was supported by 248 people’s deputies, did not vote in full faction “Opposition bloc” and the “Renaissance” of the “will of the people” vote one MP, and the Radical party of Oleh Lyashko – three.

In addition, before the vote, the Parliament reviewed 428 amendments to the bill, most of which concerned the powers of the security service, but Parliament didn’t support them.

We will note, the bill, in particular, specifies that the guidance in the areas of national security and defense, according to the Constitution of Ukraine, by the President. The Ministry of defence of Ukraine is principal organ in system of the Central Executive authorities that ensures forming and implements the state policy on national security in the military sphere, the spheres of defense and military construction in peacetime and special period. Within the powers granted under the Constitution, the security sector and defense is subject to democratic civilian control. The system of civil control is composed of control on the part of the President, Parliament, government, national security Council and defense, the Executive authorities and bodies of local self-government, judicial and public control.

In addition, the bill identified the fundamental national interests of Ukraine: integration into the European political, economic, safe, legal space; the membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization; the development of equal and mutually beneficial relations with other States.

Congratulations on the adoption of the Law “On national security”. 248 deputies supported the Law. The law brings our Armed forces and the national security system as a whole up to the standards of #NATO .This is an important signal to our allies @NATO on the eve of the Brussels summit in July.

We will remind, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the draft law on national security in the first reading on 5 April.
