The discount rate in Ukraine may be lower than inflation – the head of Ministry of Economics
According to Igor Petrashko, the discount rate should be reduced further.
The discount rate of the National Bank of Ukraine can do below the level of inflation.
This was stated by Minister of economic development, trade and agriculture Igor Petrashko in an interview to “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“I believe that we need to continue to reduce the discount rate. I see no problem if we have the interest rate is lower than inflation“, – he said.
According to Petrashko, reducing the discount rate to 6% per annum – a positive step for the economy, however belated.
“The reduction to 6% is a good step, but when it happened? This should have been done six months ago when I started the trend. We drop industry occurred in the fourth quarter of last year,” the Minister explained.
