The state-owned company Centrenergo will purchase 1.2 million tonnes of coal from Akhmetov to recover the mines – Ministry of energy

The Ministry of energy said that public joint-stock company “Centrenergo” plans to buy about 2.4 million tons of coal production for the restoration of the coal mines that now are idle. Half of the volumes will be purchased from domestic producers. Among the largest private – Rinat Akhmetov’s DTEK.

This became known after the meeting on the reopening of coal mines that are now idle, the press service of the Ministry.

“For the second half of PJSC “Tsentrenergo” requires roughly 2.4 million tons of coal production. Of which state-owned mines can be secured only about half of the required amount. The rest of PJSC “Centrenergo” is able to procure from domestic manufacturers at a competitive price”, – said the acting Minister of energy Olga Bukovec.

It is noted that in the autumn and winter plan to ensure stable coal supplies, so in the near future the miners should return to work. Otherwise, “we will have to import coal at different prices, “explained Bukovec.

“Centrenergo” continues to use natural gas for electricity production, despite the decision of the Cabinet regarding priority use of domestic coal to thermal power plants. Therefore, the company was recommended to determine the prospects of procurement in coal production until the end of the year.

In turn, representatives of “Centrenergo” has also expressed its intention to raise loans from state banks for financial improvement of the enterprise.

Recall, April 1 DTEK stopped all production processes, in addition to maintaining of life at the mines. The reason is called “systemic crisis in the energy sector of Ukraine”.

Then, at the end of June, the miners went to the protests in Kiev. They complained that “Tsentrenergo” repays debts before mine. According to protesters, nearly 800 employees have received less already only 58 million UAH.
