Protection principles of the United Nations, requires strong political leadership, – says the head of state.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko congratulated the new UN Secretary-General, antónio Guterres.

This is stated in the Twitter of the President.

“My sincere congratulations to antónio Guterres, the new UN Secretary General.

Protection principles of the United Nations, requires strong political leadership,” – said Poroshenko.

Guterres was born in 1949 in Lisbon. He studied engineering and physics at Higher technical Institute and worked as a teacher in high school. In 1974, Guterres joined the Socialist party. In 1995, three years after his election as General Secretary of the socialists, he became Prime Minister of Portugal. From June 2005 to December 2015, held the position of UN high Commissioner for refugees.

His predecessor, ban Ki-moon from South Korea is the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Recall, Poroshenko has held a phone conversation with the future UN Secretary General. During a telephone conversation with Hutterites Poroshenko expressed confidence that the new Secretary General will be to demonstrate a principled stance in upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and will focus its activities on international peace and security.

It is already known that it will replace ban Ki-moon on this post, former Prime Minister of Portugal antónio Guterres. After six previous votes, the Security Council stopped on his candidacy. Today will vote all members of the organization.
