Ukraine will expand the geography of blue helmets in UN missions – Klimkin

The Ukrainian side considers the priority of UN peacekeeping policy for the protection of the civilian population.

Ukraine, which is an active participant in the peacekeeping operations of the UN, intends to expand the geography of participation of its blue helmets in missions.

This was stated by Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, writes UKRINFORM.

The Minister recalled that Ukraine has expressed its readiness to make such a move after meetings at the UN last year. Klimkin noted that Ukraine supports the need for greater integration of modern technology and intelligence capabilities for peacekeeping operations.

According to him, the Ukrainian side is a priority for UN peacekeeping policy for the protection of the civilian population. Therefore, Klimkin said about Ukraine’s accession in may this year to “Kigali”, document that defines the priority for peacekeeping operations protecting civilians in all possible ways.

We will remind that earlier in Juba, capital of southern Sudan, under the crossfire of the opposing forces hit UN peacekeepers, which, in accordance with the international obligations of Ukraine, involved 31 officer of the national police and the national guard of Ukraine. Fortunately, Ukrainians were not injured.
