The EU does not exclude that after the trump will assume the office of President of the United States, the extension of the sanctions could be more difficult. Therefore, to extend the restrictive measures planned before the inauguration of the American President.

“After the inauguration of the trump in January if it will actually improve relations with Putin, the differences inside the EU will become stronger and extend sanctions against Russia will be difficult,” — said the diplomat in Brussels.

Now the sanctions apply until 15 March 2017, a decision on the extension which must be supported by all 28 EU member States.

We remind that on 15 September the Council of the European Union extended the action of personal sanctions against representatives of the Russian Federation. In particular, up to 15 March 2017 under sanctions are 146 people and 37 Russian companies, which in the EU is considered directly guilty of violating Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence.

Sanctions began its operation in March 2014. Now against Russia, in response to the crisis in Ukraine, there are a number of sanctions. In particular, economic sanctions aimed at specific sectors of the Russian economy, and measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol.

Also, the European Union added to the sanctions list of deputies of the state Duma of the Russian Federation elected in the occupied Crimea. Of the relevant decision of the EU Council reported in the EU Official journal, which published the text of the decision. Given the organization of the Russian Federation elections to the state Duma in the illegally annexed Crimea and Sevastopol the Council believes that six men should be added to the list of persons and companies subject to restrictive measures.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the resolution on the appeal to the parliaments of foreign States, parliamentary assemblies and international organizations regarding the elections in the state Duma of the Russian Federation on the territory of temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Elections to the state Duma took place on 18 September. The results of the elections to the Duma were those same four parties that were previously. Pro-presidential party “United Russia” scored 37.7 percent, followed by “Communist” Gennady Zyuganov – of 13.93 and “LDPR” Vladimir Zhirinovsky – 13,11, overcomes the 5% threshold “Fair Russia” Sergei Mironov – of 6.55%.

On 20 September, during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada MPs supported the decision on non-recognition of the legitimacy of the elections in the state Duma of Russia.
