Integration of European countries within the EU should be suspended.

Such opinion in interview to the Die Welt stated by the President of Germany, Joachim gauck.

According to him, the break is necessary to determine the goals and plan further action.

“By creating the EU, we have developed a concept, which even the previous generation could not dream. But on the way to unification we sometimes chose too fast paced and not all citizens wanted to or was able to follow us. It bothers me,” said gauck.

According to gauck, first need to convince the population of the EU that “Europe stands firmly on the values of freedom, democracy, peace and the rule of law”.

Earlier, Merkel argued that Brexit will not affect European integration of the Western Balkan countries.

“The prospect of accession of the Western Balkan countries remains. Britain’s decision did not change anything”, – said Merkel. Merkel added that the issue of membership is a matter of implementation conditions, in order “to promote the accession process”.
