In the Kremlin commented on the claim of Ukraine regarding freezing of transit

The Kremlin said that Russia would apply under international law methods of protection in connection with the claim of Ukraine to the WTO regarding the limitation of the transit of goods.

This was reported by press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reported.

“Under international law there are methods and ways to protect the interests of the Russian Federation, which will be applied in this case, exactly as in other comparable”, – said Peskov.

“Here’s some possible reasoning is hardly relevant,” he said, answering the question about possible consequences for Russia because of the claim.

We will remind, Ukraine has filed a WTO action against Russia, because it limits its territory traffic in transit of Ukrainian goods to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. From 1 January 2016 launched a free trade area between Ukraine and the EU in the framework of the Association Agreement. Russia took offense and decided to take revenge on Ukraine blocking transit of goods by road and rail to Kazakhstan, and from July 1 – to Kyrgyzstan.

This is the second claim of Ukraine against Russia in the WTO because of the limitations of transit.
