EU plans to extend sanctions against Russia because of the scandal with Siemens in the occupied Crimea – Reuters

Today, August 4, the European Union will take a decision on introducing new individuals and companies from Russia to the black list, which is subject to the EU sanctions.

It is connected with the supply of turbines, the German industrial concern Siemens in occupied Crimea, reports Reuters.

According to two diplomatic sources, any obstacle should arise and a decision will be made.

The member countries of the EU can until tonight, August 4 to submit objections in connection with the proposal to expand the list of sanctions.

We will remind, on 11 July it became known that Siemens has filed a lawsuit against the company “Technopromexport” for the supply of turbines in the Crimea. Earlier in the company declared that the Peninsula was taken at least two of the four installations that were set for the project in Taman. Also a defendant in the suit is the company “Siemens Gas Turbine Technology”.

After that, the Russian media reported that in St.-Petersburg employees of FSB have detained the General Director of company “Power machines” of the Novel, which, according to preliminary data, suspected of divulging state secrets. At his workplace and home were searched, then Director of “Power machines” was questioned and released under recognizance not to leave.

According to the investigation, Roman Filippov “informed outsiders of documents containing confidential information”.

The company “Power machines” together with the German company created the “Siemens Gas Turbine Technology”, which was developed gas turbine SGT5-2000E. Later the turbines were delivered to the occupied Crimea company “Tekhnopromexport”, although the sanctions prohibit Siemens to do this.

On 21 July it became known that Siemens stopped the supply of power equipment of Russian government-controlled clients for the fact that all four gas turbines, delivered in the summer to plant in Taman, was wrongfully removed in the Crimea.
