The Finance Ministry plans to reduce the number of recipients of scholarships, but to increase them

The Ministry of Finance proposes to reduce substantially the number of students who will receive state academic scholarships (for academic achievement). In 2018, the number of recipients want to reduce to 25%, and by 2020 – up to 15%. Now these students 40-45%.

This was stated by Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko in comments VoxConnector, writes “Economic truth”.

“We are not going to reduce the scholarship, we want to increase it. At 15% academic scholarship the scholarship can be at the level of the minimum wage and the subsistence minimum. We can get out of the subsistence level (in 2018 is expected to reach 1.7 thousand UAH) and closer to the minimum wage (2018 – 3723 UAH). That is, the level must be sufficient to ensure that this scholarship was sufficient to be able to live comfortably,” – said the Deputy Minister.

The final decision should be for the Ministry of education and science.

“We will insist that they change the percent of fellows and determined the amount of the scholarship at a higher level than in 2017. We had such an agreement with the Ministry of education that by 2020, we level the scholarship will reduce to 15%”, – said Marchenko.

Recall, according to the new rules of payout of 40-45% (the specific percentage shall be approved by the University) students-state employees receive the scholarship. 2017 scholarships received 70% of the students.

In 2017, scholarships for pupils and students of vocational educational institutions (I-II levels of accreditation) are 415-1056 UAH per month, for students of universities of III-IV accreditation levels – 1100-1400 UAH.

In addition to academic, in Ukraine there are social grants.

Increased scholarships receives only a certain percentage of students at the discretion of the institution. For example, in the capital KPI is 5% of total 40% 2% of the total number of students-state employees.
