The EU or the Customs Union: how to change the mood of the Ukrainians to join the European Union – survey
In June 2017 on the question “If Ukraine was able to enter only one international economic Union, which Alliance would it be?”, 54 % of Ukrainians said that this economic Union must be EU, 18 % were in favor of the customs Union, 8 % answered that “some other” and 20% are unable to determine the answer.
This is evidenced by the sociological survey conducted by GfK Ukraine together with Center for Insights in Survey Research.

This suggests that the mood of the Ukrainians to join the European Union has changed – for comparison, in March 2012 the accession to the EU patrimony 36 % of Ukrainians, the customs Union – 43 %, only 4 % supported the entry of any other economic Union and 17% could not answer Yes to the question.
The highest support for accession to the EU was observed in September 2014, then entry into the European Union did 59 % of Ukrainians and 17 percent supported the customs Union, 9 % of respondents would give their votes for the Union and the other 15 could not choose with whom Ukraine is better to enter into an economic Union.
Speaking about the support of the EU and the customs Union in the regions of Ukraine, in the West, 78 percent of Ukrainians were in favour of Europe and only 4 % – for the customs Union. In the centre of interest was divided into 63 % and 12% for the EU and the customs Union, respectively. Relative to the North here, 39 % support the EU and 20% the customs Union, but in the East most of the supporters of the customs Union – 40 % of opican and 29 % are to join the European Union.
The survey was conducted on the entire territory of Ukraine (except for occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas) from 9 June to 7 July 2017. In the sociological survey involved 2,400 respondents. The error does not exceed 1.7 percent.
Recall that earlier in June, 2017 on the question “If today was held a referendum on Ukraine joining NATO, how would you vote?” 40 % of Ukrainian respondents said that they would give their votes for NATO, 27 per cent would vote against such a Union, and 12% would not vote and 22 % could not answer the question.
