In Klimkin accused Putin of attempting to pervert the idea of peacekeepers in the Donbass

The Ukrainian foreign Ministry commented on the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the possibility of deploying UN peacekeepers in Donbas and recalled that in 2015 the head of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has officially sent to the UN request to deploy a peacekeeping operation.

“The purpose of this operation is to ensure lasting peace in certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine based on the Minsk agreements and in compliance with the fundamental principles and norms of the UN Charter while strengthening the presence of the OSCE SMM. Since then, Russia as a state aggressor constantly sabotaged the proposals of Ukraine, refusing to consider our appeal to the UN security Council and even arguing, as it was in June 2016, that Ukraine is not addressed in the security Council,” – said in a statement the foreign Ministry.

Diplomats also stressed that Ukraine had always maintained a clear position that any international peacekeeping presence must be entered, with the consent and after exhaustive consultations with the Ukrainian side, to provide for the withdrawal of all occupation troops and mercenaries and their weapons from the territory of Ukraine and to ensure a reliable control of the Ukrainian-Russian border to prevent Russian soldiers, weapons, equipment and mercenaries on the territory of Ukraine.

“In the case of a decision on the introduction of peacekeeping operations (PKOs), there can be no question about the presence of military or other personnel of the aggressor party in the territory of Ukraine under the guise of peacekeepers, as that would be contrary to the basic principles of UN peacekeeping. Equally, there could be no question about obtaining consent for an OPM from illegal armed groups, which operate on the territory IDLO with the support, funding and logistical support from the Russian Federation”, – said Putin diplomats.

The foreign Ministry believe that the statement of the Russian President about the peacekeepers is another attempt of the Russian Federation as parties to the conflict to represent the conflict vnutrennyaya aggression and distort the idea and purpose of the peacekeeping operation that will not serve to achieve the main goal – to establish sustainable peace in the Donbas and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

As you know, Putin today, September 5, China said that it supports presence of UN peacekeepers in the Donbass. In his opinion, they should guarantee the security of the OSCE mission. In addition, the head of the country-occupier believes that the introduction of the peacekeeping contingent should occur in coordination with the leaders of terrorists “LNR” and “DNR”.

Earlier it was reported that the President Petro Poroshenko plans in the coming months to submit to the UN General Assembly the idea of deployment of peacekeeping mission in the Donbass.

During preliminary telephone conversations of the leaders of the “Normandy format”, he stressed on the need for the introduction in the Donbass UN peacekeeping mission with the mandate of the UN security Council.
