The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko plans to discuss at the UN General Assembly the idea of establishing the international friends of Ukraine with the de-occupation of Crimea.

The head of state said in the framework of the 14th annual meeting of the Yalta European strategy (YES), writes UNIAN.

“Almost two years ago, I expressed the initiative to establish a mechanism for the restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty in the Crimea. We talked about a gradual, peaceful way of ousting Russia from the Crimea. We rely on the instrument of international law, courts of arbitration”, – said Poroshenko.

According to the President, it is necessary to coordinate joint actions.

“We have a coordinated and focused support to our partners around the world, and today I would like to propose the establishment of an international friends of de-occupation of Crimea in order to coordinate joint actions. I plan to discuss this in new York for the UN General Assembly”, – said the President.

We will remind, the Committee of permanent representatives of EU countries recommended to the EU Council to extend for 6 months of personal restrictive measures against Russian physical and legal entities in connection with the situation in Ukraine. The decision should be approved by the EU Council. The validity of existing sanctions to expire on September 15.
