Poroshenko explained the importance supported by the Parliament of bills concerning Donbas
The adoption by the Verkhovna Rada bills concerning the occupied part of Donbass will strengthen the position of Ukraine in international negotiations.
This is stated in the statement of Petro Poroshenko.
The President noted that the documents qualify Russia as the aggressor country, and some regions of Donetsk and Luhansk regions as occupied territories.

“We fix the right to self-defence under article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations. This further strengthens the legal basis for the use of the Armed Forces, expanding their abilities in the region. This strengthens the arguments in favor of granting Ukraine defensive weapons. The law although reglamentary details the military aspect of our struggle, the key proclaims peace, political and diplomatic way”, – says Poroshenko.
He noted that to maintain in Parliament the bills demonstrate to Ukrainians in occupied Donbas that the government has not forgotten about them.
“The law will strengthen our position in the struggle for the liberation of hostages and in the matter of the possible deployment of UN peacekeepers in the Donbas. Russia as an aggressor country will have no right to participate in this mission, which should be deployed throughout the occupied territory, including temporarily we do not control the Ukrainian-Russian border”, – said Petro Poroshenko.

The President of Ukraine added that despite the horrors that frightened opponents of society, the worst predictions have not come true, but the army was strengthened, there was a transition to a contract basis, and the like.
“Night before last I had a long conversation with Irina Gerashchenko, my special representative in the Minsk group, just after her return from the capital of Belarus. The Russians did not hide their hopes for the failure of voting in the Verkhovna Rada. Especially great hopes are pinned on the rejection of the draft Law on the prolongation of local self-government. Why? Because it would play into their hands at the line of contact and help relieve the burden of the sanctions. And responsible majority voting will help our army continue to hold the Fort with a minimum of casualties, and diplomats to intensify international pressure on Russia.

Recall that today, October 6, the Verkhovna Rada voted for the bills that define the future of the occupied part. So, adopted in the first reading a presidential bill on the peculiarities of the state policy on ensuring state sovereignty of Ukraine on the temporarily occupied territories in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions (No. 7163). Also Pleased to extend the special status of the bill OGLO 7164 “On creation of necessary conditions for the peaceful settlement of the situation in certain districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions”.
