Mikheil Saakashvili – the former Georgian President. During his presidency, the result of the reforms, Georgia has blossomed. Despite this, in 2014, Saakashvili had to flee from their native country.
Charges in Georgia
In July 2014, Saakashvili accused of abuse of power during the dispersal of the opposition rally on 7 November 2007 using water cannons and tear gas, as well as in the defeat of the TV company “Imedi” and the seizure of property from a founder of this TV company, Badri Patarkatsishvili.

Then the Georgian government claimed that the opposition was coordinating their actions with Russia. 8 November, the night Saakashvili signed the decree about introduction in Georgia of a state of emergency for a period of 15 days “in connection with the coup attempt”. And later main opponent of Saakashvili became the leader of the party “Georgian dream” and the richest man of Georgian billionaire Ivanishvili, who had then a great fortune in Russia.
In August 2014, Saakashvili was charged another charge of embezzlement of budget funds. According to the Georgian Prosecutor’s office, Saakashvili was spending public money on cooks, massage therapists, hotels and boat rental. In particular, he is accused that in the period from 2009 to 2012 only on beauty treatments for themselves and family, he spent about 450 thousand dollars.

In September 2014 the Prosecutor’s office of Georgia, Saakashvili has brought accusation on the case of beating of member of Parliament Valery Gelashvili, and in November – in the case of the murder of United Georgian Bank Sandro Girgvliani, in particular, on early pardons four policemen convicted of murder.
In General, at home against Saakashvili, under investigation for four counts, and if its fault is proved in court, the former President of Georgia faces 11 years in prison.
At the time of the allegations Saakashvili was in Ukraine. Twice Georgia appealed to Ukraine about the arrest and extradition policy, but was refused.
Activities in Ukraine
29 may 2015 Saakashvili has granted Ukrainian citizenship, and may 30 – appointed head of the Odessa regional state administration. His tenure is remembered not so much with the development of the region, as high-profile conflicts with senior officials, in particular, with the then Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and interior Minister Arsen Avakov.
The final conflict, after which Saakashvili resigned as head of the Odessa regional state administration, took place in November 2016 with President Petro Poroshenko.
Since that time, Saakashvili spoke about the necessity of impeachment Poroshenko. In February 2017, he registered a political party “new force”. On 26 July he was deprived of Ukrainian citizenship on the basis of false data stated in the questionnaire. The documents, which filled Saakashvili stated that he is not under investigation in Ukraine or abroad, although in reality he was arrested in absentia in Georgia.

A few months Saakashvili was outside of Ukraine, previously promising that he would return on 11 September. This promise he fulfilled. A crowd of supporters of Saakashvili broke through the cordon of border guards on the Ukrainian side and held the policy on the Ukrainian territory without official registration of papers on crossing the state border. The court found Saakashvili guilty of illegal border crossing and ordered him to pay a fine of 3.4 thousand UAH.
Saakashvili’s party “Movement new forces” joined in the protest, which began on 17 October 2017, and was named by its organizers the “Big political reform”. Among the main demands of the protesters was the acceleration of reforms and the resignation of President Petro Poroshenko. On 19 October, the organizing Committee in a joint statement announced the end of protests for the next session of the Verkhovna Rada, however, “the Movement of new forces” decided to stay in the camp to continue the protest.
In early November, Saakashvili stated that he had received from the Migration service temporary residence permit in Ukraine, which was later extended until March 2018.

November 30, Saakashvili also said that the SBU through the court received permission to search his apartment on charges of treason. So today’s visit of security forces was not supposed to be a surprise.
Suspicion of preparing a violent change of government had happened before. On October 24, Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko said that the demonstrators, under the leadership of Saakashvili prepared a coup in Ukraine and financed from abroad.
On December 5 it became known that Saakashvili is accused of the whole four articles: part 1 article 15 of the “Attempted crime,” part 2 of article 28 “Committing a crime by group of persons”, part 1 of article 256 “the Assistance of members of the criminal organizations” and section 4 of article 110-2 of “Financing of actions committed to forcibly change or overthrow the constitutional order or seizure of state power”.
The maximum penalty Saakashvili threatened is the latest article and is from 8 to 10 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term up to three years and with confiscation of property.

Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko during a briefing said that Saakashvili was financed by the funds of associates of the President-the fugitive Victor Yanukovych. “It concerns the cooperation of a number of politicians, first and foremost Mikheil Saakashvili with members of the criminal group of Yanukovych in the first place Sergei Kurchenko, money which Saakashvili and those close to him persons held funding resulting protests, the purpose of which was the seizure of state power in Ukraine”, – said the Prosecutor General.
In addition, it became known that the night of Monday, 4 December, police detained two couriers who had to pass Saakashvili money oligarch Kurchenko.
It is now known that the attempt of militiamen to detain policy has failed. Supporters of Saakashvili stopped the car in which he was transported by the security forces broke down the door and freed the detainee.
Since then, Saakashvili began to call people to overthrow the government.
Note that the lawyer Saakashvili expressed fears that he will be extradited to Georgia, where, we recall, he could face arrest.
