The Pechersky district court of Kiev on Wednesday, February 21, closed the criminal proceedings against Yuriy Kolobov, Minister of Finance of Ukraine of Victor Yanukovych

It is reported Radio Liberty with reference to the lawyer ex-the Minister Igor Fomin.

The court made the corresponding decision in connection with the expiration of limitations. The Minister in the courtroom was not – he now lives in Spain and participated in the process via videoconference.

Recall Yuriy Kolobov has been arrested in March 2015 in Spain. The Prosecutor General’s office filed an extradition request the Minister during the reign of Viktor Yanukovych. It and several other representatives of the then government is suspected of illegal issuance of bonds of external state loan for the loan from Russia in the amount of 3 billion U.S. dollars. “In violation of the requirements of the Law “On state budget of Ukraine for 2013”, Kolobov, Yu. V. and other senior officials organized and provided issue of bonds of external state loan in the amount of 3 billion U.S. dollars due to the “national welfare Fund” of the Russian Federation, and illegally transferred to the Commission in the amount of 450 thousand dollars in favor of VTB Capital plc (subsidiary of Russian Bank “VTB”, London) with the placement of these state papers,” – said the press center of the SBU.

In addition, in October 2014 the SSU was opened criminal proceedings on the fact of embezzlement and appropriation of state budget funds in especially large sizes former officials, among them Kolobov. It is established that they illegally allocated from the state budget of 220 million UAH to Finance the construction of a dedicated telecommunications network.

In the fall of 2015 PGO said that Kolobov attempted to escape from custody. Protection of the former Minister handed over a copy of the document, which said that Yuriy Kolobov supposedly has the status of a witness, not a suspect. Upon a fake letter initiated the investigation on signs of the crime under parts 1 and 4 of article 358 of the criminal code of Ukraine “Forgery, seals, stamps and forms, sale or use of forged documents, seals, stamps”.

The Prosecutor’s office also said: “the Case against ex-Minister Yanukovych will be brought to trial and a fair verdict, in spite of all opposition and attempted fraud. Ukraine will continue to seek his extradition”.
