The sides called for the release of Ukrainian political prisoners held in Russia.

Petro Poroshenko held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

This is stated on the website of the President of Ukraine.

Poroshenko thanked NATO for its support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and solidarity in countering Russian aggression.

He also informed Secretary General about the developments in the Donbas and noted the importance of the deployment of peacekeeping forces under the UN mandate.

The head of state stressed that Ukraine continues to implement a course of Euro-Atlantic integration and security sector reform and defense according to NATO standards, thus attracting practical support of the Alliance.

In turn, Stoltenberg welcomed the recent adoption of the law on national security.

The interlocutors discussed preparations for participation in the activities of the NATO Summit, which will take place in Brussels in July. Stoltenberg also invited Poroshenko to the North Atlantic Council, NATO and a high-level meeting of the member States and partner countries in the peacekeeping mission “Resolute support” in Afghanistan.
